Here to make you feel warm and welcome.
Dr. Stacie Saunders, BSc, DDS
Fellow, American Academy of Orofacial Pain | Diplomate, American Board of Orofacial Pain
Dr. Saunders graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees. She then pursued a postgraduate, three-year clinical residency in the diagnosis and management of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and orofacial pain at the University of Alberta. During this time, she participated in the university's multidisciplinary pain clinic and was part of the Cross Cancer Institute diagnostic team.
In 2002, Dr. Saunders returned to Halifax to open her private practice devoted exclusively to treating patients with TMD, orofacial pain and chronic pain. The clinic has since expanded to include Dr. Reem Rostom and Dr. Beth Briand.
She has spent time as the director of the TMD clinic at Dalhousie University Dental School and is involved in continuing education throughout Atlantic Provinces. She has obtained over 800 hours of continuing education in her field and strongly believes in an interdisciplinary approach to pain management. She has also completed a series of international board examinations to become one of only ten American Board of Orofacial Pain (ABOP) diplomates in Canada and the only diplomate east of Ontario.
Our Dentists
Dr. Reem Rostom, BSc, MSc, DDS
Dr. Rostom is a “Bedfordtonian” at heart. As a proud alum, she is a three-time Dalhousie University graduate, receiving a Bachelor of Science with honours, a Master of Science in microbiology and immunology and a Doctor of Dental Surgery.
During her second year of dental school, Dr. Rostom joined the Canadian Armed Forces with plans to release from the military once her return of service commitment was complete. To her surprise, she found an amazing community with the Royal Canadian Dental Corp and was determined to stay in military service as long as possible. After multiple postings and growing her family to three children and a very cute dog, she found herself in Greenwood, NS, for her final posting. Her family fell in love with life in the valley and settled in Port Williams, NS. With the military always in her heart, Dr. Rostom could never completely bring herself to retire from the military and chose to release as a reservist in 2021. She loved her time in uniform, misses her green family and credits the military with the excellent dental training she received as a general dentist.
Dr. Rostom began her TMD journey during her time in the Canadian Armed Forces. After pursuing further education in the area of TMD and working as a dentist in private practice, she saw how patients struggled, physically and emotionally, with issues related to TMD. Deciding to dedicate and limit her practice to orofacial pain, Dr. Rostom moved her practice to Bedford in April 2022 with Dr. Saunders and Dr. Briand. Together they are committed to treating patients ethically, with integrity and using evidence-based care practices.
Dr. Rostom is currently under the mentorship of Dr. Barry Glassman and Dr. Bob Mier, intending to become an American Association of Orofacial Pain Qualified Dentist.
Dr. Beth Briand BSc, DDS
Dr. Beth Briand is originally from Halifax, NS and received her DDS from Dalhousie in 1999. After graduation, she moved to Alberta, where she began her career in private practice and was also an instructor to dental assisting students at KDM Dental College in Calgary.
Always seeking a new adventure, Dr. Briand moved to the North West Territories, where she worked both in private practice and acquired a surgical position at the Yellowknife General Hospital, where her passion for helping children and individuals with special needs blossomed.
After many extraordinary experiences and opportunities in the North, Dr. Briand returned to her home of NS, where she focused on treating children, eventually working in operating rooms in Yarmouth and Amherst, NS. She has also worked for the military and has been licensed in NB.
For several years, Dr. Briand has focused her practice on TMD and orofacial pain. Due to her surgical position at the Cumberland Regional Health Centre, she has had the opportunity to work with an anesthesiologist/specialist in interventional chronic pain, where she learned techniques like intraarticular TMJ injections.
Dr. Briand is working towards a certification in Orofacial pain from Rutgers University (completion April 2023). She will continue her OR practice in Amherst, NS and welcomes children and teenagers to see her at TMD Therapeutics. Dr. Briand also treats adults at TMD Therapeutics and specializes in hypermobility and connective tissue disorders.
